Bruce is a small town and a surrounding area in South Australia. It is located about 278 kilometers north of Adelaide, the state capital.

History of Bruce
Bruce officially became a town on May 19, 1881. The land for the town was first planned out in February 1881. People aren't completely sure how Bruce got its name. Some say it was named after a well-known landowner in the area. Others believe the Governor of South Australia named it after a friend or family member.
Early Services in Bruce
Bruce was once a busy place with important services. It had a railway station that ran from 1882 to 1987. This station was part of the Peterborough–Quorn railway line.
The town also had its own post office. This post office served the community for many years, from 1882 until 1976. A local school was also open in Bruce. It provided education for children from 1882 until 1962.
Locality Boundaries
The official boundaries for the Bruce area, also called a "locality," were set on March 13, 1997. This larger area was named after the original town, which is located within its borders.
Population of Bruce
According to the 2016 Australian census, which happened in August 2016, Bruce had a very small population. Only eight people were living there at that time.
Government and Location
Bruce is part of different government areas in Australia. For federal elections, it is located within the division of Grey. For state elections, it is in the electoral district of Stuart.
Most of Bruce is managed by the District Council of Mount Remarkable. A smaller part of the area is within the Flinders Ranges Council.
