Brush Fork is a small community in Mercer County, West Virginia, USA. It's also spelled Brushfork. It's called a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area the government tracks for population.
Brush Fork is located about 2 miles (3.2 km) northwest of Bluefield. In 2020, about 1,065 people lived there. The community gets its name from the nearby Brush Fork creek. This creek flows into the Bluestone River.
The West Virginia National Guard Brushfork Armory is in the community. This building is used by the National Guard. It also hosts basketball games for Bluefield High School. Local colleges and high schools use it for graduation ceremonies. Other events are held there too. In 2024, the Armory received money to plan a new center. This new center will meet modern safety needs.
Brushfork is becoming a popular spot for visitors. Many people who visit the Hatfield-McCoy Trails stay in the area.
Education in Brush Fork
Brushfork has been home to Brushfork Elementary School. This school will close in 2025. A new school called Timberwood Elementary is opening. Timberwood Elementary will combine students from Brushfork and Bluewell Elementary schools.
Brushfork was also the original home of Bluefield College of Evangelism. Its first campus was the Christian Acres Camp. This camp is still active today. The college later moved to a campus next door. Bluefield College of Evangelism is now called Blueridge College of Evangelism. It has moved to Wytheville.
Getting Around Brush Fork
Two main roads meet in Brushfork at a place called Airport Square. These roads are US 52 and West Virginia Route 123. The Mercer County Airport is just east of Brushfork. When WV 123 reaches the state line, it becomes VA 643. This road then connects with VA 102.
Brushfork also has bus service. You can travel throughout Mercer and McDowell counties using Bluefield Area Transit buses.
