Bryce William Petty (born May 31, 1991) is an American former professional football player. He played as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Baylor Bears. The New York Jets picked him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft.

Early Life and High School Sports
Bryce Petty is a member of the Chickasaw Nation. He grew up in Midlothian, Texas, and went to Midlothian High School. He was a talented football player there.
High School Football Achievements
- In 2006, as a sophomore, he threw for 979 yards and four touchdowns. He was named Offensive Sophomore of the Year for his district.
- As a junior in 2007, Petty threw for 2,042 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also ran for 101 yards and five touchdowns. This earned him a spot on the first-team All-District.
- In his senior year (2008), he threw for 1,507 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 166 yards and five more scores. Even though he missed some games due to injury, he was still named second-team All-District.
Other Sports
Besides football, Petty also played basketball in high school. He was also part of the track and field team. In 2008, he placed second in the discus throw event.
College Football Career
Bryce Petty played college football for the Baylor Bears football team at Baylor University. He played from 2010 to 2014.
Starting Out (2010–2012)
For his first three years, Petty was a backup quarterback.
- In 2010, he was a redshirt. This means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games. This allowed him to gain experience without using up a year of his college eligibility.
- In 2011, he played in five games as a backup. He threw for 43 yards.
- In 2012, he played in six games. He threw for 97 yards and one touchdown.
Becoming a Starter (2013 Season)
Petty became the main starting quarterback in 2013, his junior year.
- He had an amazing season, throwing for 4,200 yards and 32 touchdowns. He only threw three interceptions.
- He also ran for 14 touchdowns.
- The Baylor Bears won their first Big 12 conference title that year.
- They played in a big game called the 2014 Fiesta Bowl. They lost to Central Florida.
- Petty's great performance meant he finished seventh in the voting for the Heisman Trophy. This award goes to the best college football player in the country.
Senior Year Success (2014 Season)
As a senior in 2014, Petty continued to play well.
- He threw for 3,855 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also ran for six touchdowns.
- He led the Bears to win a share of their second Big 12 title in a row.
- They played in the 2015 Cotton Bowl Classic. They lost to Michigan State.
- In that game, Petty threw for a record 550 yards for the Cotton Bowl. He was named the game's offensive MVP (Most Valuable Player).
- He finished tenth in the 2014 Heisman Trophy voting.

Bryce Petty was drafted into the NFL in 2015.
New York Jets (2015–2017)
The New York Jets chose Petty in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft. He signed a four-year contract with the team.
2015 Season
- Petty played in his first preseason game on August 13.
- During the regular season, he was the third-string backup quarterback. This means he was behind two other quarterbacks on the team.
- He did not play in any regular season games in 2015.
2016 Season
- Petty got his first chance to play in a regular season game on November 6. He came in after the starting quarterback got injured.
- A week later, he started his first NFL game against the Los Angeles Rams. He threw for 163 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
- On December 5, he replaced the starting quarterback again during a game.
- The Jets coach decided Petty would start the last four games of the season.
- In Week 14, Petty earned his first NFL win as a starter. He threw for a career-high 257 yards. The Jets came back from being behind to win in overtime.
- On Christmas Eve, he injured his left shoulder during a game. This injury ended his season.
2017 Season
- Petty injured his left knee during a preseason game in August.
- In Week 14, he entered a game after the starting quarterback got hurt. He played for the rest of the season as the starter.
- He finished the 2017 season with 544 passing yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.
- The Jets released Petty on May 3, 2018.
Miami Dolphins (2018)
- The Miami Dolphins picked up Petty after the Jets released him.
- He was later placed on injured reserve due to another injury.
- The Dolphins released him on September 25, 2018.
