Charles William Cascio (born August 7, 1932 – died November 2, 2022) was a famous American racehorse trainer. Most people knew him as Bubba Cascio or C. W. Cascio. He was known for training some of the fastest horses in the country.

Bubba Cascio won the important All American Futurity race twice. He won in 1968 with a horse named Three Oh's. Then, in 1970, he won again with Rocket Wrangler. He also trained another amazing horse named Dash For Cash. This horse won the Champion of Champions race twice.

Bubba Cascio was honored many times for his work. In 2002, he joined the Texas Racing Hall of Fame. In 2008, he was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame. People often called him a "Texas racing legend." In 2016, he also became a member of the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. He was recognized as one of the most successful horse trainers for over 40 years. Bubba Cascio passed away in 2022 when he was 90 years old.

Bubba's Early Life and Horses

Bubba Cascio was born in Houston, Texas, and grew up around horses. His family was deeply involved in horse racing. His uncle managed a racetrack called Epsom Downs. However, horse betting became illegal in Texas in 1937, so the track closed.

Bubba's father, Jake Cascio, was also a well-known racehorse trainer. Bubba started working with horses when he was only 10 years old. He began by "hot-walking" horses. This means he would walk them after a race or workout to help them cool down.

A few years later, he was galloping racehorses. By age 16, he became a jockey, which is a person who rides horses in races. He rode as a jockey for about three years. But he grew too big for the weight limits required for jockeys.

After he stopped being a jockey, Bubba started riding cutting horses. These horses are trained to separate a single cow from a herd. He learned from his hero, Matlock Rose, who also trained horses at J3 Ranch.

A Career Full of Wins

Bubba Cascio often said that Lester Goodson was a big help in his life and career. Goodson believed in him and helped him meet important people in the horse world.

Bubba even remembered a special trip in 1956. He went with Lester Goodson to the White House! They presented two American Quarter Horses to President Eisenhower. Bubba rode one of the horses, named Doodle De Do, in a reining pattern on the White House lawn. Reining is a type of horse riding where the horse performs a set of movements, like spins and slides. The other horse was named Sporty Miss.

Bubba Cascio trained many horses that won races. Some of his most famous horses include:

  • Three Oh's: This horse won the All American Futurity in 1968.
  • Rocket Wrangler: This horse won the All American Futurity in 1970.
  • Dash For Cash: This horse won the Champion of Champions race twice. Dash For Cash is also in the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame.

Bubba Cascio's dedication and skill made him a true legend in the world of horse racing.
