His professional career included playing for the Houston Oilers and the Carolina Panthers. Before joining the NFL, McDowell played college football at the University of Miami. The Houston Oilers picked him in the third round of the 1989 NFL draft.

Bubba McDowell's Playing Career

Bubba McDowell was a talented safety in the NFL. A safety is a defensive player who helps stop long passes and tackles players who run with the ball. He played for the Houston Oilers from 1989 to 1994. After that, he joined the Carolina Panthers for the 1995 season.

Later, he became the assistant head coach from 2019 to 2021. On January 4, 2022, Bubba McDowell was named the head coach of the Prairie View A&M Panthers football team. Under his leadership, the Prairie View A&M Panthers won the SWAC West Division in both 2022 and 2023.
