Buccleuch is a small place in South Australia. It is located about 140 kilometers (that's about 87 miles) east of Adelaide, the capital city. Buccleuch sits along the Pinnaroo railway line and the Mallee Highway. It is part of the Coorong District Council area. You can still find an active Lutheran Church in Buccleuch today.
A Look Back in Time
Buccleuch got its name from a place in Scotland called the County of Buccleuch. This county was named after a Scottish nobleman, William Scott. He was the sixth Duke of Buccleuch.
A school opened in Buccleuch in 1921, helping local children learn. However, it closed its doors in 1942. There was also a special railway stop, called a siding, in Buccleuch. This allowed trains to load or unload goods, but it is no longer used. The Buccleuch Post Office also closed a long time ago, on April 30, 1986. Today, Buccleuch is considered part of the nearby area called Peake for mailing addresses.
