Walter Maynard "Bud" Moore Jr. (born May 25, 1925 – died November 27, 2017) was a famous person in NASCAR racing. He was a driver and also owned a racing team. Bud Moore was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was known for his team, Bud Moore Engineering. He was also a hero from World War II. He once said he was "an old country mechanic who loved to make 'em run fast."

Bud Moore's Early Life and War Service

Bud Moore served in World War II as a soldier in the United States Army. He was part of the very important Normandy landings in France. After that, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He finished his time in the army as a sergeant. For his bravery, Moore received five Purple Hearts and two Bronze Star Medals. These awards show how much he did for his country.

Building a Racing Legacy

When Bud Moore came home from the war, he started working in stock car racing. He began as a crew chief, which means he led the team that prepared the race cars. In the 1960s, he started his own team called Bud Moore Engineering.

His team became very successful in NASCAR. They won three championships in the Grand National Series. This was a major racing series at the time. His team also won 63 races over 37 years. Bud Moore Engineering stopped racing in 1999.

A Hall of Fame Career

In 2011, Bud Moore received a great honor. He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This means he is recognized as one of the most important people in NASCAR history.

Bud Moore passed away on November 27, 2017. He was 92 years old and died in his hometown of Spartanburg. He is remembered as a true legend in stock car racing.
