Buffyverse facts for kids

The Buffyverse is a made-up world created by a writer and director named Joss Whedon. It's the setting for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel TV shows.

This world also appears in comic books and novels based on these shows. Fans of the shows came up with the name "Buffyverse." Later, Joss Whedon himself started using it for his fictional world.

The Buffyverse is a place where Vampires and demons really exist. You can find many different kinds of monsters here, like werewolves, ghosts, trolls, and witches. Magic is also used often in this world. Most people in the Buffyverse don't know that these creatures or magic are real. They live their lives without knowing about the hidden dangers around them.

What Makes the Buffyverse Special?

The Slayer: A Chosen Hero

The Slayer, also called the Chosen One, is a young girl with amazing super-human abilities. She has incredible strength, can move very fast (agility), and has a lot of energy (stamina). Her job is to fight evil creatures.

When one Slayer dies, a new girl is "chosen" to take her place. The new Slayer gets all the powers of the last one right away. She also starts having dreams that show her things about her future and about past Slayers.

The very first Slayer was created a long, long time ago, even before people started writing history down. She was made by ancient people who combined her with a demon. When a Slayer dies, this demon moves to the next chosen girl. It gives her the Slayer's powers and the dreams of all the Slayers who came before her.

Hellmouths: Doors to Evil Worlds

In the Buffyverse, there are many different "dimensions" or worlds. Some of these worlds are full of evil. A Hellmouth is a place where the barrier between the normal world and an evil dimension is very weak. Evil energy and creatures are naturally drawn to a Hellmouth. Areas near a Hellmouth will have a lot of strange and evil things happening.

There are two main Hellmouths that we know about in the Buffyverse. The first one is in Sunnydale, California. This is where most of the Buffy stories take place. It is the biggest and most powerful Hellmouth in the Buffyverse. The second Hellmouth is in Cleveland, Ohio. We don't know as much about this one.
