Buix was once a small town, or municipality, located in the Jura canton in Switzerland. It was part of the Porrentruy district.
On January 1, 2009, Buix joined with two other nearby municipalities, Courtemaîche and Montignez. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called Basse-Allaine. This means Buix is no longer a separate municipality but is now a part of Basse-Allaine.
Where is Buix Located?
Buix is nestled in a small valley. A river called the Allaine flows right through the middle of this valley. This natural setting makes the area quite scenic.
What is a Municipality?
In Switzerland, a municipality is like a local government area, similar to a town or a small district. Each municipality has its own local rules and services. When municipalities merge, they combine their resources and administration to form a larger, single unit. This often happens to make local government more efficient.
