Downtown MRT line & Bukit Panjang LRT Line

Bukit Panjang Station (BP6/DT1) is a busy train station in Singapore. It is part of two different train lines. These are the Bukit Panjang LRT Line and the Downtown MRT Line.

This station is located where the areas of Bukit Panjang, Bukit Batok, and Choa Chu Kang meet. It's special because it's the very last stop, or terminus, for the Downtown MRT Line. This means if you're on the Downtown Line, this is where the train journey ends!

Even though it serves two lines, the station areas for the LRT and MRT are separate. You can easily walk between them. There's also a big shopping mall nearby called Bukit Panjang Plaza. It's a great spot to relax or grab a bite.

The station used to be called Petir MRT Station. But in 2009, its name was changed to Bukit Panjang MRT Station to avoid confusion.

History of Bukit Panjang Station

When Did the Station Open?

The Bukit Panjang Station first opened on 6 November 1999. Back then, it was only an LRT station. The LRT stands for Light Rail Transit. It's a type of train system that's smaller than the MRT.

Adding the Downtown Line

Later, on 27 December 2015, the Downtown MRT Line started operating. This made Bukit Panjang an even more important station. It connected the smaller LRT system to the bigger MRT network.

Changes to Payment Methods

On 21 November 2017, a small change happened at the station. You could no longer add money to your train card using cash at the Passenger Service Centre. Now, you need to use other ways to top up your card.
