Bull Creek is a 9.6-mile (15.5 km) long stream in Los Angeles County, California. It is a smaller stream that flows into a larger one, called a tributary, of the Los Angeles River. Bull Creek runs through the San Fernando Valley.
The creek starts in Bull Canyon near Oat Mountain. After leaving the canyon, it flows into a concrete channel. This channel helps control floods. The creek then runs south through several areas. These include Granada Hills, North Hills, Van Nuys, and Lake Balboa.
South of Victory Boulevard, Bull Creek becomes a natural stream again. It then joins the Los Angeles River. This meeting point is inside the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area. Since 2009, this part of the creek has been restored. This project helps protect the important plants and animals that live near the water.
What Happened in 1971?
In 1971, a big earthquake called the Sylmar earthquake happened. Many people living near Bull Creek had to leave their homes. This was because the Van Norman Dam was almost broken. Luckily, a huge flood down Bull Creek was stopped.
