Exploring Bungalow's Location
Bungalow is surrounded by important roads. Mulgrave Road is to the north, which is a main road connecting different parts of Cairns. Hartley Street forms the southern border. This suburb has a mix of homes and businesses. You won't find large parks or public green spaces here.
A Look at Bungalow's History
Bungalow is on the traditional lands of the Yidinji Aboriginal people.
The name "Bungalow" comes from a house called "The Bungalow." This was the home of Joseph Campbell, who was a church leader and also worked in farming.
The German Club Cairns
The Cairns Germania Club started on July 4, 1971. It was created for people who spoke German. It began with just nine members. Over time, the club grew and even started folk dancing activities.
In 1980, the club bought an old church building on Winkworth Street to use as their clubhouse. In 1991, they changed their name to the German-Austrian-Swiss Association. This was to include more German-speaking members from different countries. Later, they simply became known as the German Club Cairns.
Bungalow Railway Station
There used to be a railway station in Bungalow on Spence Street. It was part of the North Coast railway line. However, the railway tracks have been moved, and the station is no longer there.
