History of Bunn
Bunn is named after Green Walker Bunn, who first settled in the area in the late 1800s. The town officially started around 1909. It was built on land bought by the Montgomery Lumber Company. Four years later, on March 3, 1913, Bunn became an "incorporated" town. This means it was officially recognized by the state and could set up its own local government.
Two historic places near Bunn are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These are the Andrews-Moore House and the Baker Farm.
Geography and Location
Bunn is located in the southeastern part of Franklin County. North Carolina Highway 98 runs through the town. This highway goes southeast about 6 miles to U.S. Route 64. It also goes west about 15 miles to Wake Forest.
North Carolina Highway 39 crosses NC 98 in the center of Bunn. NC 39 goes north about 10 miles to Louisburg. Louisburg is the main town and county seat of Franklin County. NC 39 also goes south about 7 miles to US 64, east of Zebulon. In the middle of Bunn, NC 98 and 39 together form South Main Street.
The United States Census Bureau says that Bunn covers a total area of about 1.4 square kilometers (0.54 square miles). All of this area is land, with no water.
