Burns Township is a community located in Shiawassee County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a type of local government area called a civil township. In 2020, about 3,280 people lived there.

History of Burns Township
Burns Township has a long history. In 1820, a person named Whitmore Knaggs set up a trading post here. He traded goods for furs with the local Ojibwe people. The township was officially created in 1835.

Burns Township includes a few different communities:
- Byron is a village located within the township.
- Union Plains is a small, unincorporated community inside the township. You can find it where Grand River Road and Reed Road meet.

Burns Township covers an area of about 35.91 square miles (93.01 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 35.30 square miles (91.43 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.61 square miles (1.58 square kilometers), is water.
The Shiawassee River is an important natural feature. It flows right through Burns Township.
