Busby is a suburb located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It's about 37 kilometres south-west of the main city centre. Busby is part of the City of Liverpool area. It's surrounded by suburbs like Miller, Heckenberg, Hinchinbrook, Green Valley, and Bonnyrigg.
A Look Back at Busby
Busby got its name from James Busby (1801–1871). He was a very important person in the early days of the Australian wine industry. James Busby arrived in Sydney from Scotland in 1824. He taught about growing grapes at a school near Liverpool. This school closed in 1851.
James Busby was the son of John Busby (1765–1857). John Busby was an engineer who built Busby's Bore. This was Sydney's second water supply. It brought water from Centennial Park to Hyde Park, Sydney.
Busby was part of a big housing project called the Green Valley estate. This area was built up during the 1960s and 1970s.
