Butene is a type of chemical compound that is part of a group called alkenes. Think of it like a family of chemicals! Its chemical formula is C4H8. This means each molecule of butene has 4 carbon atoms and 8 hydrogen atoms. Scientists can make butene in special labs. It's formed when carbon and hydrogen atoms connect using strong links called covalent bonds.
Different Types of Butene
Butene has four main types, called isomers. Isomers are like different versions of the same thing. They have the exact same number of atoms, but these atoms are arranged differently. Imagine building blocks: you have the same number of blocks, but you can build different shapes with them!
All four types of butene are gases at normal room temperature. Even though they all have 4 carbon atoms and 8 hydrogen atoms, and one special "double bond" between two carbon atoms, their shapes are a bit different. This small difference in shape can change how they behave.
