Buttermilk (born April 13, 1941 – died October 7, 1972) was a famous buckskin American Quarter Horse. He starred in many Western films and television shows. His owner and rider was the well-known cowgirl star, Dale Evans.
Meet Buttermilk: A Star Horse
Buttermilk became very popular in the 1950s. He appeared on the television series The Roy Rogers Show. Dale Evans rode Buttermilk on the show. Her husband, Roy Rogers, rode his famous palomino horse, Trigger.
Buttermilk's Popularity
Both Buttermilk and Trigger were huge hits with fans. They were so popular that many products were made in their likeness. You could find cast iron and plastic toy horses. There were even lamps and other items. Kids and adults loved collecting these items.
Buttermilk's Legacy
Buttermilk lived a long life. He passed away in 1972 when he was 31 years old. After he died, his hide was carefully placed over a plaster model of him. This model was put on display at the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Museum. The museum was first in Victorville, California. Later, it moved to Branson, Missouri.
In 2010, the museum in Branson closed its doors. All the items from the museum were sold. This included the famous models of both Trigger and Buttermilk.
