Bynum used to be a small community in Calhoun County, Alabama, in the United States. It was once called a census-designated place, which means it was a special area defined by the government for counting people.
In the year 2000, about 1,863 people lived in Bynum. Today, Bynum is no longer a separate community. It has become part of the nearby city of Oxford. It is also part of the larger Anniston–Oxford, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Bynum is located in the western part of the city of Oxford. Its exact location is 33°36'21.546" North and 85°57'47.909" West.
To the north of Bynum, you can find the Anniston Army Depot. This is a large military base. Before Bynum became part of Oxford, it covered an area of about 3.3 square miles (8.5 square kilometers). All of this area was land, with no water.
