Byron Louis Cage (born December 15, 1962) is a famous American gospel singer and songwriter. He is known for his powerful voice and inspiring music. Byron Cage has released many albums and won several awards for his work.

Early Years and Music Start

Byron Cage was born on December 15, 1962. When he was a teenager, he loved listening to gospel singers like Rev. Donald Vails and Thomas Whitfield. Their music inspired him to start singing gospel too.

He later went to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. There, he was part of the Morehouse College Glee Club, a famous singing group. He also joined the New Birth Cathedral in Atlanta. For a time, he was the music director at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, Michigan. Byron Cage is also a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Byron Cage's Musical Journey

Early Albums: Purpose and Full Gospel Choir (1995–1998)

Byron Cage began his recording career with a group called Purpose. They released two live albums: Dwell Among Us in 1995 and Transparent in Your Presence in 1996. Byron helped produce both of these albums.

He also sang with the Full Gospel Baptist Fellowship Church Choir. You can hear him on their albums "New Thing: Experience the Fullness" (1996) and "Bow Down & Worship Him" (1998).

First Solo Success: Live at New Birth Cathedral (2003)

In 2003, Byron Cage released his first solo album, Live at New Birth Cathedral. This album was recorded live and came with a DVD. It was a huge success!

The album was produced by his friend Kurt Carr. Live at New Birth Cathedral helped Byron Cage win five Stellar Awards in 2004. These awards celebrate excellence in gospel music.

An Invitation to Worship (2005)

Two years later, Byron Cage released An Invitation to Worship. For this album, he worked with the production team PAJAM. The song "We Love You" on this album features J Moss, who is part of PAJAM.

This album also brought him many honors. Byron Cage won a Soul Train Award for Best Gospel Album. He also won a Stellar Award for Song of the Year. In 2007, he was nominated for three more Stellar Awards and even a Grammy!

The Proclamation (Live at the Apollo) (2007)

Byron Cage recorded his next live CD and DVD, The Proclamation, at the famous Apollo Theater in New York City. This special event happened on April 26, 2007.

The project included guest singers like Kelly Price, Kim Burrell, and Dave Hollister. The same team, PAJAM, produced this album too. The Proclamation earned Byron Cage a Stellar Award for Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year. It was released on September 18, 2007.

Faithful to Believe (2009)

On March 13, 2009, Byron Cage recorded his album Faithful to Believe live in Detroit. This album featured amazing gospel artists like Tye Tribbett, Karen Clark Sheard, and Marvin Winans.

Grammy Award winner Aaron Lindsey produced the album. For this project, Byron Cage won Male Vocalist of the Year again. The album was released on October 27, 2009.

Memoirs of a Worshipper (2012)

Byron Cage's album Memoirs of a Worshipper was released on June 19, 2012. It was recorded live in Chicago. This album featured special guests like Fred Hammond, Clifton Ross, and Mumen "Mookie" Ngenge.

He worked with producer Aaron Lindsey again for this album. One of the popular songs from this album is "Great and Mighty."

Life and Ministry

Byron Cage has also served as a minister of music in different churches. From the late 1990s to around 2014–2016, he was the minister of music at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fort Washington, Maryland.

In June 2012, he served at The Saint Paul's Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. On January 14, 2018, Byron Cage became an ordained minister. He now serves as the minister of music at New Mercies Christian Church in Lilburn, Georgia.
