Byron Cage's Early Life and Musical Start
Byron Cage started singing gospel music when he was a teenager. He was inspired by famous gospel singers like Rev. Donald Vails and Thomas Whitfield.
College and Church Involvement
Byron went to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. While there, he was part of the Morehouse College Glee Club, a well-known singing group. He also joined the New Birth Cathedral church in Atlanta. Later, he worked as a music director for Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, Michigan. Byron Cage is also a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Early Albums with Purpose
From 1995 to 1998, Byron Cage worked with a group called Purpose. They released two live albums: Dwell Among Us in 1995 and Transparent in Your Presence in 1996. Byron helped produce both of these albums. He also sang with the Full Gospel Baptist Fellowship Church Choir on their albums in 1996 and 1998.
Solo Success with Gospocentric Records
In 2003, Byron Cage released his first solo album, Live at New Birth Cathedral. This album was a big hit and came with a DVD. It was produced by Kurt Carr, another artist on the same record label, Gospocentric. This album helped Byron win five Stellar Awards in 2004, which are major awards in gospel music.
An Invitation to Worship
Byron's next album with Gospocentric was An Invitation to Worship, released in 2005. For this album, he worked with the production team PAJAM. The song "We Love You" featured J Moss, who is part of PAJAM. This album earned Byron a Soul Train Award for Best Gospel Album and a Stellar Award for Song of the Year. It was also nominated for three more Stellar Awards and a Grammy in 2007.
The Proclamation Live at the Apollo
In 2007, Byron Cage recorded a live CD and DVD called The Proclamation. He recorded it at the famous Apollo Theater in New York City. Special guest singers like Kelly Price, Kim Burrell, and Dave Hollister joined him. The album was produced by PAJAM again and was released on September 18, 2007. Byron won a Stellar Award for Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year for this project.
Faithful to Believe
Byron recorded his album Faithful to Believe live in Detroit on March 13, 2009. This album featured other well-known gospel artists such as Tye Tribbett, Karen Clark Sheard, and Marvin Winans. Aaron Lindsey, a Grammy Award winner, produced the album. Faithful to Believe was released on October 27, 2009, and Byron won Male Vocalist of the Year for it.
Memoirs of a Worshipper
On June 19, 2012, Byron released his album Memoirs of a Worshipper. It was recorded live in Chicago. The album included special guests like Fred Hammond. Byron worked with producer Aaron Lindsey again for this project. The album features the popular song Great and Mighty.
Byron Cage's Personal Life
Byron Cage married Dr. Sonya Windham Cage, a pediatric dentist, on May 22, 2004. They later divorced.
Byron has also served as a minister of music at different churches. He worked at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fort Washington, Maryland for many years. In June 2012, he was the minister of music at The Saint Paul's Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. On January 14, 2018, Byron Cage became an ordained minister at New Mercies Christian Church in Lilburn, Georgia, where he currently serves as the minister of music.
