Caín Alto is a neighborhood, also known as a barrio, located in the town of San Germán, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 2,830 people lived in this area. It's a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.
A Look Back: History of Caín Alto
Caín Alto has an interesting history. After the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico was given to the United States by Spain. This happened under the rules of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it belongs to the U.S. but is not a state.
In 1899, the United States Department of War counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, showed that 1,643 people lived in the Caín Alto barrio at that time. The population has changed over the years, as you can see in the table below.
