Cable is a small, unincorporated community located in Haven Township, Sherburne County, Minnesota. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county or township.
This community is found between two other places: Clear Lake and St. Cloud. It sits right along U.S. Highway 10, which is a major road. You can also find it near Sherburne County Road 65 and 42nd Street SE.
Other roads like Sherburne County Roads 3 and 7 are close by. The St. Cloud Regional Airport is also in the area.
History of Cable
Cable once had its own post office. This post office was open for a short time, from 1884 to 1892. The very first person to be in charge of the post office, known as the postmaster, was a woman named Violetta Cable. It's thought that the community might have been named after her.
Transportation in Cable
Even though Cable is a small community, a famous train line passes through it. Amtrak's Empire Builder train travels on the BNSF tracks right through Cable. This train connects major cities like Seattle and Portland in the west to Chicago in the east.
However, the Empire Builder does not stop in Cable. If you wanted to catch this train, the closest station is in St. Cloud. That station is about 6 miles (about 10 kilometers) to the northwest of Cable.
