Cache Creek (Kern County, California) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Cache Creek is a special kind of stream in Kern County, southern California. It's mostly a dry riverbed, called an arroyo or dry wash. This means it only has water flowing in it sometimes, usually after big rainstorms.

Cache Creek is found in the western part of the Tehachapi Pass area and also stretches into the Mojave Desert.

The water in Cache Creek comes from the mountains nearby. It flows seasonally from the northeastern Tehachapi Mountains and the southeastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. When it rains heavily, especially during flash floods, the creek can fill up quickly. Eventually, the water disappears into the sandy ground of the Mojave Desert.

The Cache Creek Settlement

Along the Cache Creek wash, there's a small community also called Cache Creek. It's an unincorporated settlement, which means it's not officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger Kern County.

This small settlement is located where Cache Creek Road meets California State Route 58. This highway is also known as the Tehachapi Pass road. The settlement is just north of the town of Mojave.
