About the Song's History
"Calling All the Monsters" was the second song released from the A.N.T. Farm soundtrack. The song first appeared in the TV show's Halloween episode, "mutANT farm". This episode aired on October 7, 2011.
In the episode, China Anne McClain's character, Chyna Parks, performs the song. The story shows an alternate world where the A.N.T.s are monsters. Chyna, imagined as Medusa, helps them change into human form for a dance. Later, they turn back into their monster selves while dancing to the song.
The song was also used in other Disney Channel Halloween episodes. It was featured in "Beam It Up" from Shake It Up in 2011. Later, Kylie Cantrall sang it on Just Roll with It during their "You Decide LIVE!" Halloween episode in 2019.
What Kind of Song Is It?
"Calling All the Monsters" is mainly an electropop and dance-pop song. It has a strong club beat that makes you want to dance. Some people have compared its sound to a modern version of Michael Jackson's famous song "Thriller".
The song's style also reminds some listeners of dance pop singer Britney Spears. The main idea of the song is about magic and fantasy. The words describe dancing with all sorts of spooky, fun characters.
The Music Video Story
The music video for "Calling All the Monsters" came out on September 21, 2011. China Anne McClain's older sisters, Lauryn Alisa McClain and Sierra Aylina McClain, are in the video too.
In the video, the three sisters are dressed in costumes. They are looking for a Halloween party. China thinks the party is inside a spooky house. She goes in, even though her sisters are unsure. Inside, China takes off her hood. She sees a suit of armor covered in spider webs that suddenly comes to life and dances with her!
She then goes upstairs and dances with more monsters, like a mummy, a werewolf, and Frankenstein's monster. Even a picture of a man in a frame starts to move and dance! China moves to the third floor, where many monsters are dancing with her in a huge ballroom. At the end, she comes out of the house with her hood on. She tells her sisters that there was nothing inside, as if it was all a secret.
The video was inspired by two other famous music videos: "Thriller" (1993) by Michael Jackson and "Superstition" (2003) by Raven-Symoné.
