Calvin Leon Natt (born January 8, 1957) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He was a talented forward who stood 6 feet 6 inches tall. Calvin Natt played college basketball at Northeast Louisiana University. After college, he joined the NBA and played for 11 seasons, from 1979 to 1990.
During his career, Natt played for several teams, including the New Jersey Nets, Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, and Indiana Pacers. He was chosen to play in the 1985 NBA All-Star Game while with the Denver Nuggets. By the time he retired, he had scored 10,291 points in his career. Calvin Natt was known by the nickname "Pit Bull" because of his strong playing style. He is also the older brother of another former NBA player, Kenny Natt. After his basketball career, Calvin Natt became a minister and now owns a funeral home in Denver, Colorado.
Early Life and College Basketball
Calvin Natt was born in Monroe, Louisiana. He attended Bastrop High School in Bastrop, Louisiana. After high school, he went to Northeast Louisiana University. He played college basketball there from 1975 to 1979. During his time in college, he was recognized as a top player. In 1979, he was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year. He was also chosen as a second-team All-American in 1979.
Playing in the NBA
Calvin Natt was drafted into the NBA in 1979. The New Jersey Nets picked him as the 8th overall player in the first round. He quickly showed his skills and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in his first season.
He played for the Nets briefly before moving to the Portland Trail Blazers. He played for the Trail Blazers until 1983. In 1984, he joined the Denver Nuggets, where he had some of his best years. In 1985, he was selected to play in the prestigious NBA All-Star Game. This is a special game where the best players from each conference play against each other.
Natt was known for his ability to score points and grab rebounds. Over his 11-year career, he scored a total of 10,291 points, averaging 17.2 points per game. He also had 4,070 rebounds, averaging 6.8 rebounds per game. He made 1,306 assists during his career. After playing for the Nuggets, he also had short stints with the San Antonio Spurs and the Indiana Pacers before retiring in 1990.
Life After Basketball
After his successful career in the NBA, Calvin Natt chose a different path. He became an ordained minister. He also became a business owner. Today, he owns and operates a funeral home in Denver, Colorado.
