Camber Sands is a super sandy beach in East Sussex, England. It's close to the village of Camber and the town of Rye. This beach is special because it's the only place in East Sussex with a big system of sand dunes! It stretches about 3 miles (5 km) from the River Rother's mouth near Rye Bay all the way to the Kent border. After that, you'll find pebbles and shingle instead of sand.
It's one of only a few sandy beaches on England's south coast that stays sandy even when the tide is in. Other similar sandy spots are West Wittering and Avon Beach. You'll find two popular holiday resorts nearby: Pontins and Parkdean Resorts. They are right in the village of Camber, making it easy to visit the beach.

Amazing Sand Dunes
The sand dunes at Camber Sands are very important for nature. A big part of them is protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This means they are special places for plants and animals. The rest of the dunes are also important for nature conservation.
These dunes are actually growing bigger over time! People look after them carefully to stop the sand from blowing away too much. This helps protect the area and the plants and animals that live there.
World War II History
During the Second World War, the dunes at Camber Sands were used for training. Soldiers practiced here because the dunes looked a lot like the sandy areas in Normandy, France. This was important for preparing for battles. There is still a special area nearby used by the MoD for training.
Getting There
Parking
There are three main car parks at Camber Sands. The Western car park on New Lydd Road has a large overflow area. Across the road is the Central car park, which also has an overflow. A third, smaller car park is on Old Lydd Road.
The Central car park gives you the easiest access to the beach. From the Western car park, you might need to walk over long, steep sandy paths across the dunes. These paths are not easy for prams or wheelchairs. The Western car park closes at 8 PM in the summer.
Old Railway Station
Did you know Camber Sands once had its own railway station? It was the last stop on the Rye and Camber Tramway. The station opened on July 13, 1908. Sadly, it closed with the railway line in September 1939.
Fun Activities
Camber Sands is a very popular place for exciting water and land sports. Because of its wide sandy beach and good wind conditions, it's perfect for kitesurfing, kite landboarding, and kite buggying.
If you want to try these sports, you can only launch your kite in a special area. This area is at the eastern end of the beach, near the Jury's Gap car park. The British Darts Organisation also holds an annual professional darts tournament at the Pontins resort nearby.
