Cameron Riley Monaghan (born August 16, 1993) is an American actor and model. He has been nominated for a BAFTA Award and a Critics' Choice Television Award.
Monaghan is well-known for his role as Ian Gallagher in the TV series Shameless. He also played twin brothers Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska in the DC Comics TV series Gotham. These characters are seen as early versions of the Joker. Cameron also played Cal Kestis in the video games Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. He started his career as a child model at age three and as a child actor at age seven.

Cameron's Early Life
Cameron Monaghan was born in Santa Monica, California. He is the only child of Diane Monaghan, who worked with insurance claims. Soon after he was born, Cameron and his mother moved to Boca Raton, Florida.
His mother noticed he was a very outgoing child. She sent his picture to modeling agencies when he was three years old. He appeared on his first catalogue cover at age five. At age seven, he was in his first local TV commercial.
Cameron went to Addison Mizner Elementary School. He started acting in plays like Stuart Little and Winnie-the-Pooh. He also appeared in a small movie called The Wishing Stone. When he was about 10 years old, Cameron moved to the Los Angeles area.
Cameron's Acting Career
Starting Out in Acting
Cameron Monaghan first became known in 2003. He played Winthrop Paroo in the ABC TV movie The Music Man. The director, Jeff Bleckner, said Cameron "popped off the screen." He knew Cameron was the right choice right away.
In 2004, Cameron started a role as Chad on the TV show Malcolm in the Middle. He won a Young Artist Award for this role. The next year, he played Palmer Noid on the show Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. He also appeared in many other TV shows. These included Criminal Minds, Numbers, and The Mentalist.
In 2005, Cameron began acting in movies. He was in the western film Brothers in Arms. The next year, he played Kevin O'Doyle in the comedy Click. He also appeared in The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause and Dog Gone. He played the young detective Bob Andrews in the Three Investigators movie series.
Starring in Shameless
In April 2010, Cameron Monaghan joined the cast of the TV series Shameless. The show started in January 2011. Cameron plays Ian Gallagher, a teenage son in a big family from Chicago. Critics praised his acting in the show.
For his work in the fifth season, Cameron was nominated for a Critic's Choice Award. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Cameron announced he would leave the show after the ninth season. However, he returned for the tenth season, which started in late 2019. He continued to be a main cast member until the show ended in 2021.
From 2011 to Today
Cameron Monaghan has appeared in many TV shows and movies. In 2011, he was a guest star on NCIS. He also appeared on Rizzoli & Isles. In 2012, he was a guest star on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
He also took on various movie roles. In 2011, he co-starred in the Disney movie Prom. In 2014, Cameron starred in the drama Jamie Marks Is Dead. He also appeared in the fantasy movie Vampire Academy. He played Asher in the movie The Giver.
From 2015 to 2019, Cameron was a recurring guest star on the TV series Gotham. He played the twin brothers Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska. These characters are important to the story of the famous Batman villain, the Joker.
Cameron Monaghan plays Cal Kestis, the main character in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (released in 2019). He returned to voice Cal Kestis in the sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which came out in 2023.
In July 2023, it was announced that Cameron would join the cast of Tron: Ares. This movie is expected to be released in 2025.
