The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause is a fun Christmas comedy film from 2006. It was directed by Michael Lembeck. This movie is the third and last one in the Santa Clause film series. It follows The Santa Clause and The Santa Clause 2.

The movie stars Tim Allen as Scott Calvin, who is also Santa Claus. Martin Short plays the tricky character, Jack Frost. Tim Allen and Martin Short had worked together before in a 1997 Disney movie called Jungle 2 Jungle. Most of the actors from the first two films came back for this one. However, David Krumholtz, who played Bernard the Arch-elf, was not in this movie. Because of this, Curtis, played by Spencer Breslin, became the new Head Elf. This was also the last movie released before actor Peter Boyle passed away.

The film was finished in February 2006. It came out in theaters in the US on November 3, 2006. It was released in the UK on November 24. You could buy the DVD and Blu-ray versions starting November 20, 2007, in the US.

The Story of The Santa Clause 3

What Happens in the Movie?

It has been twelve years since Scott Calvin became Santa Claus. He is now married to Carol Newman, who teaches at the North Pole. On Christmas Eve, Carol is expecting their first baby. She tells a story to some young elves about her life with Scott.

Scott invites his wife's parents, Sylvia and Bud Newman, to the North Pole. He also invites his ex-wife Laura, her husband Neil, their daughter Lucy, and Scott's son Charlie.

Meanwhile, Scott has a meeting with other famous figures. These include Mother Nature, Father Time, the Easter Bunny, Cupid, the Tooth Fairy, and the Sandman. They are worried about Jack Frost. Jack is upset because he doesn't have his own special holiday. He has been trying to get attention during Christmas. Mother Nature suggests he be punished.

Scott is trying to keep his Santa identity a secret from his in-laws. They think he is a toy-maker in Canada. Jack Frost agrees to help out at the North Pole as his punishment. He helps Scott and the elves set up Canadian decorations. Scott agrees to this.

However, Jack Frost has a secret plan. He wants to trick Santa into giving up his job. An elf named Curtis accidentally tells Jack about the "Escape Clause." This is a special rule. Jack then sneaks into the Hall of Snow Globes. He steals a globe that shows Scott as Santa. If Scott holds this globe and says, "I wish I'd never been Santa at all," he will go back in time. This would undo his entire time as Santa.

When Lucy finds out about Jack's plan, he freezes her parents. He then locks Lucy in a closet. Jack creates problems that make Scott feel like he should quit.

Jack tricks Scott into using the Escape Clause. Both of them are sent back to Scott's front yard in 1994. This is when Scott accidentally made the original Santa fall off his roof. Scott had to become the new Santa back then. This time, Jack Frost makes the original Santa fall. He grabs Santa's coat before Scott can.

Scott is sent back to the present day. But now, he is the CEO of his old company. Business is more important than family to him. Scott also learns that Laura and Neil got divorced. Carol moved away years ago.

Scott goes to find Lucy and Neil. They are on vacation at the North Pole. But Jack Frost has changed it into a theme park! Christmas is now called "Frostmas." The elves are sad, and the reindeer are in a petting zoo. Parents can even pay to have their kids put on the nice list. Scott finds Lucy and Neil. Neil explains that Charlie didn't want him to be his father, which led to his divorce from Laura.

Scott confronts Jack Frost. He creates a distraction, and Lucy steals Jack's snow globe. Lucy throws the globe to Scott, but Jack catches it. Scott then plays a recording of Jack saying, "I wish I'd never been Santa at all." This uses the Escape Clause on Jack! Both Scott and Jack are sent back to 1994.

Scott holds Jack back long enough for his 1994 self to get the Santa coat. This makes Scott Santa Claus again. Both of them are sent back to the present day in the original timeline.

Scott makes up with his family. Jack is arrested by the elf police. Jack says he can't unfreeze his victims unless he unfreezes himself. Scott uses a snow globe he gave Lucy earlier. It shows her hugging a snowman. Scott convinces Lucy to give Jack Frost a "magic hug" to unfreeze him and make him a better person. It works! Laura and Neil unfreeze, and Jack Frost changes.

Scott finally tells Carol's parents that he is Santa. With only two hours left before Santa needs to deliver presents, Carol goes into labor.

Months later, Carol is telling the story to her students. Scott walks in and shows them their new baby boy, Buddy Claus!
