The Story of Santa Clause 2
Santa's New Challenge
Eight years have passed since Scott Calvin became Santa Claus. He is doing a great job at the North Pole. But then, Head Elf Bernard and Curtis, who keeps the Handbook of Christmas, tell him some surprising news. There's another rule Santa must follow: the "Mrs. Claus" clause. This means Santa has to get married before the next Christmas Eve. If he doesn't, he will stop being Santa forever!
At the same time, another elf named Abby brings more bad news. Scott's teenage son, Charlie, is on the naughty list. Scott realizes he needs to go back home. He must find a wife and also help Charlie get back on the nice list.
A Clone for Santa
Scott talks about his problems with the Council of Legendary Figures. This group includes Mother Nature, Father Time, Cupid, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and the Sandman. To make sure no one notices Santa is gone, Curtis helps Scott create a life-sized robot Santa. Bernard, the Head Elf, is not happy about this. But Santa asks him to go along with it. Bernard tells the other elves that Santa just got a makeover. This way, they won't question why the robot Santa looks a bit different.
Scott Returns Home
Because his Santa contract is ending, Scott slowly starts to change back into regular Scott Calvin. He still has a little bit of magic left to help him. Scott goes back to his old home. There, he sees his former wife Laura, her husband Neal, and their daughter Lucy. He also sees Charlie. Scott realizes Charlie has been causing trouble at school to get attention.
Scott and Charlie face problems with the school principal, Carol Newman. Charlie has been messing up the lockers at school.
Trouble at the North Pole
Back at the North Pole, the robot Santa starts following the rules too strictly. He begins to think that everyone in the world is naughty, even for small mistakes. Because of this, the robot Santa takes over the North Pole. He uses giant toy soldiers that he made himself. He tells the elves his plan: he will give lumps of coal to everyone in the world.
Bernard then tells everyone that the robot Santa is a fake. The robot Santa gets angry and puts Bernard under house arrest.
Finding Love and Fixing Things
Scott tries to go on some dates, but they don't work out. He soon finds himself liking Principal Carol Newman. He takes her to the faculty Christmas party in a horse-drawn sleigh. At the party, Carol tells him that she used to believe in Santa when she was a child. But her parents made her stop believing after she argued with other kids.
Scott uses his last bit of Christmas magic to make the party fun. He gives everyone their childhood dream gifts. He gives a special gift to Carol. With his very last bit of magic, he wins her over, and they kiss. Scott tries to tell her he is Santa, but she thinks he is making fun of her. She gets upset and tells him to leave.
Later, Charlie tells Scott how hard it is for him that Scott is not around like other dads. He also says it's hard to keep the secret that his father is Santa. Lucy, Charlie's younger sister, helps Charlie understand. Charlie then shows Carol a magic snow globe to convince her that Scott really is Santa.
Saving Christmas
Curtis flies in to tell Scott about the robot Santa's plan. But Scott has used up all his magic. He cannot get back to the North Pole on his own. With help from the Tooth Fairy, Scott and Curtis manage to return. However, the robot Santa finds them and ties them up.
Charlie and Carol free them by calling the Tooth Fairy. The Tooth Fairy flies them all to the North Pole. Scott goes after the robot Santa, who has already left with the sleigh. Scott rides Chet, a young reindeer who is still learning. They both crash back into the village.
With an army of elves, Carol, Bernard, Charlie, and Curtis lead a big snowball fight. They fight to defeat the toy soldiers. The robot Santa is finally defeated and shrinks down to a tiny six-inch size. Scott then marries Carol in a special ceremony. Scott changes back into the real Santa, and Christmas is saved! Scott and Charlie tell Lucy the truth about Scott being Santa Claus.
During the credits, Carol begins to transform into Mrs. Claus.
