Camillo Filippo Ludovico Borghese was an important Italian prince. He was born on July 19, 1775, and passed away on May 9, 1832. He was a member of the famous Borghese family.
Camillo is best known for marrying Pauline Bonaparte in 1803. Pauline was the younger sister of Napoleon, a very powerful French leader. Because of this marriage, Napoleon gave Camillo many important titles.
After Napoleon lost his power, Camillo left France. He also left his wife behind. He lost the titles Napoleon had given him. However, he kept the older titles that belonged to his family for many years. Camillo died in Florence when he was 56 years old. We don't know the exact reason for his death.

Camillo Borghese's Life Story
Early Life and Family
Camillo Borghese was born in Rome, Italy. His father was Marcantonio Borghese, 5th Prince of Sulmona. Marcantonio was a supporter of Napoleon. Camillo also had a brother named Francesco.
In 1796, Camillo started working for France.
Marriage to Pauline Bonaparte
In 1803, Camillo became the second husband of Pauline Bonaparte. Pauline was Napoleon's sister. Her first husband had passed away.
Military Career and Titles
After his marriage, Camillo was made a leader of a special army unit. This unit was called the Tirailleurs du Po. It was made up of soldiers from the area Camillo governed. He stayed in this role until January 24, 1804, when he left military life.
Soon after, Napoleon made him a Prince of the French Empire. In 1805, he also received an honorary rank in Napoleon's special Imperial Guard. On February 10, 1805, he received a very high honor. It was called the Grand Eagle of the Legion of Honour. By December 27, 1805, he was promoted to Colonel.
In 1806, Camillo became the Duke of Guastalla. But this area soon became part of the Duchy of Parma.
Art Collection
In 1807, Prince Camillo had to sell his large art collection. He sold it for about 3 million francs. The collection was kept at the Abbey of Lucedio in Italy. Today, many of these artworks are in the Louvre museum in Paris, France.
Later Military Roles
On May 14, 1807, Camillo was promoted to Brigade General. Then, on January 23, 1808, he became a Divisional General. In 1808, he was put in charge of all military forces in a region called Piedmont. By 1809, this command was split into two military divisions. These divisions were part of the French Imperial Army. They included parts of Italy that used to belong to Austria.
Later, he became a grand dignitary and governor general of Piedmont. This meant he oversaw the regions of Piedmont, Genoa, and Parma.
Final Years
Camillo lived in Piedmont for ten years. After this time, he was convinced by the pope to welcome Pauline back. This happened only three months before Pauline passed away from cancer. Camillo continued to secretly support Napoleon's ideas until his own death. He died in Florence on April 10, 1832.
During his time as Prince of Sulmona and Rossana, Camillo was considered the wealthiest Roman prince.
