Candice Swanepoel was born in Mooi River, South Africa, to Willem and Eileen Swanepoel. She grew up on a farm with her older brother, Stephen. Her father's family is of Dutch origin, and her mother's family is British.
As a child, Candice was a ballet dancer. She attended a boarding school called St. Anne's Diocesan College. Her life changed when she was 15 years old. A model scout discovered her while she was shopping at a flea market in the city of Durban. This was the start of her modeling career.
