History of Candor
The first people to settle in the area arrived around 1794. Sadly, a big fire in 1813 destroyed much of the early community. No one is quite sure where the name "Candor" came from or what it means. The village was formed by combining two nearby communities, Candor Center and Candor Corners.
The village officially became an incorporated village in 1900. A historic building, the John W. McCarty House, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. This means it's an important place to protect because of its history.
