Where Cannington Brook Starts
Cannington Brook doesn't start from just one spot. It forms when different smaller streams join together.
Hawkridge Reservoir
Many streams, like the Peart Water, flow into Hawkridge Reservoir. This reservoir is a large artificial lake. It is located near a village called Spaxton. Workers built Hawkridge Reservoir between 1960 and 1962. Its main job is to hold drinking water for the town of Bridgwater.
Ashford Reservoir and Joining Streams
The Peart Water continues its journey northeast from Hawkridge Reservoir. It flows into another reservoir called Ashford Reservoir. This second reservoir was built much earlier, in 1934. After leaving Ashford Reservoir, the Peart Water meets another stream. This stream is called Currypool Stream. When Peart Water and Currypool Stream join, they officially form Cannington Brook.
Cannington Brook's Journey
Once formed, Cannington Brook flows through the countryside of Somerset. It carries water from the Quantock Hills towards a larger river.
Where it Ends
Cannington Brook eventually flows into the River Parrett. The River Parrett is a much bigger river in Somerset. Cannington Brook joins the River Parrett southeast of a village called Combwich. This is where Cannington Brook's journey ends.
