About Capitán Prat Province
Capitán Prat Province is quite large, but not many people live there. It is the eighth largest province in Chile by land area. However, it is the fourth least populated province in the country. This means it has very few people living in a big space. It is the most spread out province in mainland Chile.
Land and People
In 2002, a count of the people (called a census) was done by the National Statistics Institute (INE). This count showed that the province covers about 37,043.6 square kilometers. At that time, 3,837 people lived there. There were 2,154 men and 1,683 women.
Most people, about 2,217 (57.8%), lived in towns or cities. The rest, about 1,620 (42.2%), lived in the countryside. Between 1992 and 2002, the number of people living in the province grew by a small amount, only 56 people.
