How the Zoo Started

Did you know that kids helped start the Capron Park Zoo? In 1925, school children held a "penny drive" to raise money for it. The zoo officially opened in 1937. It was built on 8 acres of land that the Capron family generously donated for Capron Park.

The zoo got a big makeover in the late 1980s. It reopened in May 1990, looking brand new! A special education department for children was added in 1991.
