Capshaw Mountain is a cool mountain located in Harvest, Alabama. It's not one of the tallest mountains, but it rises about 800 feet above the land around it. This mountain is super important because it helps collect and provide water for the local community. Think of it like a giant funnel that gathers rainfall, creating a watershed. Capshaw Mountain is also separate from the larger Cumberland Plateau mountain range.
Why Capshaw Mountain is Important for Communication
The very top of Capshaw Mountain is home to several tall communication towers. These towers are used by many different groups. They help local radio stations, TV channels, and wireless phone companies send out their signals. Even state agencies and other private businesses use them.
How Towers Help Us Connect
Capshaw Mountain's height and location make it a perfect spot for these towers. From here, signals can travel very far without anything blocking them. This is called "line of sight" communication. It means the towers can "see" other towers or receivers from a long distance.
Reaching Far and Wide
Because of its great location, signals from Capshaw Mountain can reach places as far away as Nashville, Tennessee and Birmingham, Alabama. To the west, signals can travel deep into Mississippi. To the east, they can reach Chattanooga, Tennessee. This means the towers cover a huge area, about 125 miles (200 km) in every direction around the community!
