Early Businesses and Community Life
In 1914, local farmers worked together to start the Captain's Mountain Co-operative Dairy Company. They raised money by selling shares, and then they built a cheese factory. This factory was busy, making thousands of pounds of cheese each month. It helped the local dairy farmers sell their milk. The factory operated for many years but eventually closed down by 1939.
