Carabooda is a quiet, countryside area located in the northern part of Perth, Western Australia. It's known for its open spaces and farms. This area is managed by the City of Wanneroo, which is like its local council.
The region gives its name to a special type of building limestone called Carabooda limestone. This stone is used in construction. There was once an old theme park called Dizzy Lamb Park on Karoborup Road. It had cool vintage cars and military vehicles, but it closed down in 2000.
History of Carabooda's Name
The name Carabooda comes from a nearby lake. In earlier times, the area was spelled Karoborup or Karroborup. J.W. Gregory first wrote down the lake's name in January 1843. The name is a Noongar word, which is the language of the local Aboriginal people. The spelling "Carabooda" was used by 1867. It was officially approved as a suburb name in 1982. You can still see the name "Karoborup" on a road that goes through the area.
Where is Carabooda?
Carabooda is surrounded by several roads and future developments. To the south, you'll find Romeo Road and Karoborup Road. The proposed Mitchell Freeway is to the west. Cutler Road and Old Yanchep Road are on the east side. Walding Road, near the Yanchep turnoff, marks the northern boundary.
In 2011, about 737 people lived in Carabooda. They lived in 316 homes. This was an increase of 227 people since 2006. Carabooda is a rural area, meaning it has lots of open land and not many people. Many plant nurseries, wineries, and even a wildlife park are located here.
Getting Around Carabooda
Carabooda used to have a bus service called Transperth route 490. This bus traveled between Clarkson train station and Two Rocks. It went along Wanneroo Road. However, the bus service changed on December 14, 2008. It was moved to Marmion Avenue and the nearby suburb of Yanchep. This means Carabooda no longer has its own bus service.
