Where is Alkimos?
Alkimos is located between the future Mitchell Freeway to the east and the Indian Ocean to the west. To the north, you'll find Eglinton. To the east is Carabooda. To the south are the newer suburbs of Butler and Jindalee.
Alkimos History and Shipwreck
Alkimos gets its name from a famous shipwreck. The Greek cargo ship Alkimos got stuck on the coast nearby in 1963. The wreck is still there, about 410 meters (1,345 feet) from the shore.
There are big plans for Alkimos and Eglinton to become a "satellite city." This means it will be a large town with everything people need. LandCorp, a government agency, thought that about 55,000 people would live here when it's finished. The new city will have hospitals, universities, big shops, businesses, and fun places.
However, some groups were worried about protecting the environment. They suggested that more land should be set aside as nature reserves.
