Exploring Alkimos: Where Is It?

Alkimos is located between the Mitchell Freeway area to the east and the Indian Ocean to the west. To the north, you'll find the suburb of Eglinton. Carabooda is to the east, and the newer suburbs of Butler and Jindalee are to the south.

Alkimos: A Look at Its Past

Alkimos gets its name from a famous shipwreck. A Greek cargo ship called the Alkimos ran aground near the coast in 1963. The remains of the ship are still there, about 410 meters (1,345 feet) offshore.

There were big plans for Alkimos and Eglinton to become a "satellite city." This means a large, planned city built near a bigger one. The idea was for about 55,000 people to live there. The plan included hospitals, universities, shops, and places for fun.
