Carbrook is a busy area in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It is located to the southeast of Brightside. This area is mostly known for its businesses and industrial sites. Carbrook gets its name from a small stream called the Carr Brook. This stream used to flow through the area until the late 1700s.

Exploring Carbrook
Carbrook is close to the old industrial village of Tinsley. You can still find some older buildings here. These include the Sheffield Bus Museum, which shows off old buses. There's also the historic Carbrook Hall. This building used to be a pub, but now it's a Starbucks coffee shop. You can also see the stone-built Carbrook School and the Tinsley Wire steelworks.
In 1868, an important group called the Brightside and Carbrook Co-operative Society started here. This was a big step for co-operative groups in the region. Later, it became the Sheffield Co-operative Society.
Modern Carbrook: A Changing Landscape
Since the mid-1990s, Carbrook has been changing a lot. Many well-known companies have moved here. They like the location because it's less than a mile from Junction 34 of the M1 motorway. Companies like Abbey National and Freemans Plc are here. You can also find many shops, including fancy car brands like BMW and Lexus.
Carbrook also has a tram stop named after it. You'll find the Meadowhall Retail Park here. This is a shopping area outside of town. It's important not to confuse it with the much larger Meadowhall Shopping Centre, which is further north.
The main road, 'Attercliffe Road / Sheffield Road', looks very different now. Before the 1980s, it had old steelworks houses and small shops. These shops were often in charming but old terrace houses. One famous shop was 'Ronnies barbers', a traditional barber who worked there for many years.
Today, Carbrook is home to some big entertainment spots. It has a 20-screen cinema at Valley Centertainment. You can also visit the Sheffield Arena for concerts and events. The Olympic Legacy Park is also in Carbrook.
Getting Around Carbrook
Carbrook is well-connected by the Sheffield Supertram. Three tram stops serve the area on the yellow and tram-train lines. These stops are Carbrook, Valley Centertainment, and Arena/Olympic Legacy Park. This makes it easy to travel around Carbrook and to other parts of Sheffield.
Protecting Carbrook from Floods
In September 2017, the Sheffield Council announced plans to help prevent floods. They are working on a flood protection program for the Carr Brook. They are also working on a nearby stream called Kirkbridge Dyke. This will help keep the area safe from heavy rains.
