College Career at Michigan
LeVert played for the Michigan Wolverines from 2012 to 2016. He was part of a talented group of new players that included Mitch McGary, Nik Stauskas, and Glenn Robinson III.
Freshman and Sophomore Years
As a freshman, LeVert did not play much at the start of the season. But his coach, John Beilein, saw his potential as a good defender and gave him more playing time. He helped the team reach the NCAA championship game.
In his sophomore season, LeVert became a key player. He worked hard during the summer to get stronger. He had several big games, including scoring 24 points against Duke. He helped Michigan win the Big Ten Conference championship for the first time since 1986. He was named to the All-Big Ten second team.
Junior and Senior Years
LeVert's junior season was cut short by a foot injury. Before getting hurt, he was leading the team in scoring, rebounds, assists, and steals. He decided to return to Michigan for his senior year instead of entering the 2015 NBA draft.
His senior season was also affected by injury. He started the season strong and even recorded a triple-double (13 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists) in one game. A triple-double is when a player gets 10 or more in three different statistical categories.
Unfortunately, another leg injury ended his college career early. Despite his injuries, LeVert showed great talent and determination during his time at Michigan.
Professional Career
Brooklyn Nets (2016–2021)
LeVert was drafted 20th overall by the Indiana Pacers in the 2016 NBA draft. He was immediately traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Because of his foot surgery, he missed the start of his first season. He made his NBA debut on December 7, 2016.
Over the next few seasons, LeVert became an important player for the Nets. He was known for his scoring and playmaking. In the 2018–19 season, he hit two game-winning shots. A serious leg injury sidelined him for 42 games that season, but he returned for the playoffs.
On March 3, 2020, LeVert had an amazing game, scoring a career-high 51 points against the Boston Celtics. A few days later, he recorded his first NBA triple-double.
Indiana Pacers (2021–2022)
In January 2021, LeVert was traded to the Indiana Pacers. During his physical exam for the trade, doctors found a small mass on his left kidney. The trade may have saved his life, as he felt perfectly healthy at the time.
He had successful surgery to remove the mass, which was a type of cancer called renal cell carcinoma. He made a full recovery and returned to play for the Pacers on March 13, 2021.
Cleveland Cavaliers (2022–2025)
On February 6, 2022, LeVert was traded to his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. In one game in October 2022, he scored 41 points. His teammate Donovan Mitchell also scored 41 points in the same game. They were the first Cavaliers duo to score 40 points each since LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in the 2016 NBA Finals.
Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons
In February 2025, LeVert was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. He played well for the Hawks, including hitting a game-winning shot at the buzzer against the Memphis Grizzlies.
After the season, on July 8, 2025, LeVert signed a contract with the Detroit Pistons.
Personal Life
LeVert's parents are Kim and Darryl Wayne LeVert. His father passed away in 2010. His mother is a first-grade teacher. He has a younger brother named Darryl Marcus.
