Carl-Göran Ekerwald (born December 30, 1923 – died April 8, 2025) was a very talented Swedish writer. He was also a literary critic, a translator, a forest worker, and a teacher. He lived to be 101 years old!

About Carl-Göran Ekerwald
Carl-Göran Ekerwald was born in a place called Östersund in Sweden. He studied at Uppsala University. After finishing his studies, he worked as a teacher and later became a principal at a school.
His Writing Career
Ekerwald started his writing journey in 1959. His first book was a collection of short stories called Elden och fågelungen. Many of his stories explored how people who are a bit different, or "outsiders," fit into society.
From the 1990s, he began writing special books called intellectual biographies. These books were about famous thinkers and writers. He wrote about people like Horace, Voltaire, Shakespeare, and Nietzsche.
Sharing Persian Culture
Carl-Göran Ekerwald also played a big role in introducing Persian culture and literature to Sweden. He put together two important collections of Persian poetry. These were called Persiska antologin (1976) and Persisk balsam (2007). These books included beautiful poems from Sufi poets and mystics. Some of these poets were Attar of Nishapur, Omar Khayyam, and Rumi. The poems were translated by Eric Hermelin.
Ekerwald also translated works by other important writers into Swedish.
Later Life and Achievements
In his later years, Ekerwald wrote memoirs. These are books about his own life experiences. One of these was Skogvaktarens pojke (2002). This book shared stories about his childhood growing up in Jämtland.
Carl-Göran Ekerwald received many honors for his work. In 1986, he was given an honorary doctorate from Umeå University. The next year, in 1987, he won the Dobloug Prize. This is a very important award for Swedish and Norwegian literature.
He celebrated his 100th birthday on December 30, 2023. He even wrote a book about it called Fördelen med att bli gammal (The Advantage of Getting Old). Carl-Göran Ekerwald passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 101.
