Carl-Göran Ekerwald (born December 30, 1923 – died April 8, 2025) was a Swedish writer. He was a novelist, a literary critic, and a translator. He also worked as a forest worker and a teacher.

Carl-Göran Ekerwald was born in a town called Östersund in Sweden. He went to Uppsala University to study. After finishing his studies, he became a teacher. He even worked as a principal at a school.
His First Books
Ekerwald started his writing career in 1959. His first book was a collection of short stories. It was called Elden och fågelungen. Many of his stories were about people who felt different. They were often about "outsiders" and how they fit into society.
Writing About Famous Thinkers
From the 1990s, Carl-Göran Ekerwald wrote many books about famous people. These books were like intellectual biographies. He wrote about well-known figures such as Horace, Voltaire, and Shakespeare. He also wrote about Nietzsche.
Sharing Persian Culture
Ekerwald did a lot to share Persian culture and literature in Sweden. He helped make it more popular. He put together two important collections of Persian writings. These were Persiska antologin (in 1976) and Persisk balsam (in 2007). These books included translations of famous Sufi poets. Some of these poets were Attar of Nishapur, Omar Khayyam, and Rumi. The translations were done by Eric Hermelin.
Ekerwald also translated other important works into Swedish. For example, he translated writings by Ulrike Meinhof and Antonio Gramsci.
Later Life and Memories
In his later years, Ekerwald wrote books about his own life. These are called memoirs. One of these books was Skogvaktarens pojke (published in 2002). In this book, he wrote about growing up in Jämtland, a region in Sweden.
Awards and Family Life
Carl-Göran Ekerwald received special recognition for his work. In 1986, he was given an honorary doctorate from Umeå University. This is a special title given to people who have achieved great things. The next year, in 1987, he won the Dobloug Prize. This is an important literary award.
Ekerwald was married two times. His first wife was Anna Ekerwald. They were married from 1945 until she passed away in 2009. Later, he married Sigrid Kahle in 2010. She passed away in 2013.
Carl-Göran Ekerwald lived a very long life. He became a centenarian when he turned 100 years old. This happened on December 30, 2023. He even wrote a book about getting older. It was called Fördelen med att bli gammal (The Advantage of Getting Old). This book was published in the same year he turned 100. He passed away on April 8, 2025.
