Carla Lehmann's Acting Journey
Early Life and Training
Carla was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She was the youngest of five children. She went to Riverbend School, which is now called Balmoral Hall. While there, she helped edit the school newspaper.
When she was 15, Carla started acting at the Little Theatre in Winnipeg. She then got a chance to train at RADA in London, England. RADA is a famous acting school. After her training, she joined the Croydon Repertory Company for a year. Later, she began performing in the West End, which is London's main theatre district.
Starring in Films and TV
During World War II, Carla Lehmann acted in several war films. She appeared alongside famous actors like Stewart Granger and James Mason. In 1941, she also starred in the movie Cottage to Let with John Mills and Alistair Sim.
Carla played important roles in other films too. She was Susan Foster in Candlelight in Algeria (1944). She also appeared on television. In 1952, she played Lady Mary Hannay in the BBC TV series The Three Hostages.
Carla's Family Life
Carla Lehmann lived most of her adult life in England. In 1941, she married George Anderson McDowell Elliot. He was a former Royal Marine officer. Their marriage later ended.
In 1947, she married her second husband, John R. Townsend. He worked as an insurance broker. They were married in Westminster. Carla and John had three sons together: John Anthony (born 1948), Nicholas (born 1949), and Alain (born 1954). Carla Lehmann passed away in Berkshire, England, in 1990.
