Carlos Jorge Neto Martins (born 29 April 1982) is a former Portuguese footballer. He played as an attacking midfielder. Carlos was known for his powerful long-range shots.
He played for big clubs like Sporting CP and Benfica in Portugal. He also played in Spain for Recreativo and Granada. Throughout his career, he played 201 matches in the Primeira Liga and scored 18 goals.
Carlos Martins was part of the Portugal team at the 2004 Olympics. He played 17 games for his country's senior team.

Club Career
Starting Out at Sporting CP
Carlos Martins was born in Oliveira do Hospital, Portugal. He started playing football at a young age. He joined the youth academy of Sporting CP when he was 11 years old.
He began his professional career with S.C. Campomaiorense in the Segunda Liga. Later, in 2003, he was loaned to Primeira Liga team Académica de Coimbra.
During the 2005–06 season, Carlos faced some challenges. Despite this, he managed to score two goals in 13 games.
Moving to Recreativo
In 2007, Carlos Martins moved to Spain. He joined La Liga club Recreativo de Huelva. This move happened after some disagreements at Sporting CP.
He played well for Recreativo during the 2007–08 season. He scored seven goals in 35 matches for the club. One of his goals was in the Copa del Rey against Xerez CD.
Time at Benfica
On 1 July 2008, Carlos Martins signed a five-year contract with S.L. Benfica. Benfica paid €3 million for him. He played regularly in his first year with the team.
He scored his first goal for Benfica in a 2–0 win against Vitória de Guimarães. He also helped Benfica win the Taça da Liga (League Cup) in 2009. He scored the winning penalty in the final against his old club, Sporting.
In the next season, Carlos Martins had some injuries. But he still played an important role for Benfica. On 21 March 2010, he scored a fantastic goal from a free kick. This helped Benfica win the League Cup again, beating FC Porto 3–0.
In August 2011, Benfica loaned Carlos Martins to Granada CF in Spain. He played often for Granada during the season. Granada wanted to keep him, but he decided to return to Benfica.
After a good pre-season in 2012, he extended his contract with Benfica until 2016. He played less often in the 2012–13 season. In one important game, he was sent off, and Benfica ended up drawing. This result meant they lost the league title to Porto. After this, he played with Benfica's reserve team for a season.
Playing for Belenenses
On 16 September 2014, Carlos Martins left Benfica. The next month, he joined C.F. Os Belenenses, another top-tier club in Portugal. He made his first appearance for them in January 2015.
He scored two goals for Belenenses in a UEFA Europa League qualifying match. This helped his team beat IFK Göteborg 2–1 in July 2015.
International Career
Carlos Martins played for Portugal's national youth teams. He was part of the under-21 international team.
In September 2006, he was called up to the senior Portugal squad for the first time. He made his debut in a friendly game against Denmark.
He played in the qualifying matches for Euro 2012. He started in two important wins against Denmark and Iceland. Sadly, he missed the main Euro 2012 tournament due to an injury.
Carlos Martins also played for the Portugal Olympic team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
Personal Life
Carlos Martins has a younger brother named João. João was also a footballer and played as a midfielder. He also came from Sporting's youth academy.
In November 2011, during a Portugal game, it was shared that Carlos's young son, Gustavo, had a serious health condition. He needed a special medical procedure. Carlos spent time with his family during this period. He later returned to play for Granada.
