How to Play Carmen Sandiego: Junior Detective
Using the GizmoTapper
In the game, you use a cool device called the GizmoTapper 586-LC. A helpful artificial intelligence named DeeJay guides you. She explains what to do as you play.
Finding Clues Around the World
Each country you visit shows up as a picture on the GizmoTapper's screen. You move your mouse pointer over the screen. It turns into a magnifying glass when you find a clue. The magnifying glass will glow to show you've found something important!
Zack, Ivy, or DeeJay will show you the clue. Each clue is a simple picture. These pictures tell you something special about the country. For example, you might see an icon for coffee, cathedrals, or gold. You need to match these icons to a map. This helps you figure out where the crook went next. As you play more, you'll need more icons to find the right place.
The Fuel Limit Challenge
Unlike other Carmen Sandiego games, this one doesn't have a time limit. Instead, you have a "fuel limit." Your GizmoTapper has a certain amount of power. You must catch the criminal before your power runs out! Traveling between countries uses power. Finding clues and putting together the wanted poster also use power.
Building the Wanted Poster
A funny photographer tries to take pictures of the crook at each stop. But he only gets a small part of their face! You collect these pieces of the criminal's picture. Then, you put them together on a wanted poster. This poster is in the bottom right corner of your GizmoTapper.
If you don't put the poster together correctly, the crook might get away! As you solve more cases, the wanted poster will have more pieces. This makes it a bit harder to assemble. But it's a fun challenge!
