Caroline de Oliveira Saad Gattaz, known to many as Carol Gattaz, is a famous Brazilian volleyball player. She was born on July 27, 1981. Carol is a middle blocker, a key position in volleyball. She has won many awards and medals throughout her amazing career.

One of her biggest achievements was winning a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo with the Brazilian women's volleyball team. She also won the Volleyball World Grand Prix three times in a row, showing how strong and consistent she is.

Early Life and Sports Beginnings

Carol Gattaz was born in São José do Rio Preto, a city in Brazil. Before she became a volleyball star, Carol was a talented futsal player. Futsal is a version of soccer played indoors on a smaller court.

As a teenager, she played futsal for her city's club, América-SP. She was a striker, which means she was good at scoring goals! While still in high school, Carol discovered volleyball and soon focused all her energy on this new sport.

Carol Gattaz's Volleyball Journey

Carol Gattaz plays as a middle blocker. This position is super important in volleyball. Middle blockers are usually tall players who stand at the net. Their main jobs are to block the opponent's attacks and to quickly hit the ball over the net.

Carol started her professional volleyball career with the club São Caetano. In 2000, she moved to Rexona-Ades, another big club. After playing for several teams, she joined Finasa/Osasco in 2004. With this team, she won the Superliga Brasileira de Voleibol, which is Brazil's top volleyball league.

In 2007, Carol played for a team in Italy called Monte Schiavo. But she soon returned to Brazil to play for Rexona-Ades again. She also played for Vôlei Futuro and even a team in Azerbaijan, Igtisadchi Baku. From 2014 to 2024, she played for Itambé/Minas, where she had a lot of success. Now, she plays for Praia Clube.

Playing for Brazil

Carol Gattaz has also been a very important player for the Brazilian national team. She played for Brazil from 2002 to 2010 and again from 2021 to 2022.

With the national team, she won many gold medals:

  • The South American Women's Volleyball Championship in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2021.
  • The Volleyball World Grand Prix in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009.
  • The Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup in 2005 and 2013.
  • The Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup in 2009.
  • The Final Four Women's Volleyball Cup in 2009.

She also helped Brazil win silver medals at the World Championship in 2006, 2010, and 2022, and at the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2020.
