Carpenterville is a small, unincorporated community in Curry County, Oregon, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It is located about 16 miles north of Brookings. Carpenterville was once the highest point on the main coastal highway and is known for its amazing views.

A Look Back at Carpenterville
How Carpenterville Started
The story of Carpenterville began in 1921. A family named Carpenter, led by D. W. Carpenter, moved to this area. They started a sawmill, which is a place where logs are cut into lumber. This lumber was used to build fences and other things.
The Community Grows
In 1932, a post office was opened in Carpenterville. It was named after the Carpenter family. By 1940, about 35 people lived in Carpenterville. When it was still on the main coastal road, the community had a public school, a store, and even places for tourists to stay. There was also a lodge called the Skyline Lodge and Restaurant.
Changes to the Highway
The post office closed in 1944. Later, the main coastal highway, which was U.S. Route 101, was moved. This new road bypassed Carpenterville. The old road is now known as Oregon Route 255 or the Carpenterville Highway. This change meant that the community was no longer on the main route.
Carpenterville Today
By 1990, most of the buildings that made up the community were gone. Only one house marked the spot where Carpenterville used to be. However, the USGS (United States Geological Survey) still officially recognizes Carpenterville as a "populated place." The Carpenter family is still very active in the area. Many family members, like Zed, Brodey, Rocky, Alvin, and Rodney Carpenter, continue to live there.
