Carver is a small community located in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. It is an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own city government. Instead, it's managed by the county.

For a while, between 2004 and 2016, Carver was actually part of the nearby city of Damascus, Oregon. But then Damascus decided to become an unincorporated community again in 2016. This change meant Carver returned to being an independent community, just like it was before 2004.

Carver is situated along the Clackamas River. It's about three miles southwest of Damascus and five miles east of Clackamas. You can easily reach the community by following Oregon Route 224.

Discovering Carver: Fun Places to Visit

Carver has several interesting spots that tell stories about its past and present.

Carver Bridge: Crossing the Clackamas River

The Clackamas River at Carver has a long history of crossings. Long ago, people used a special ferry to get across. Later, a long wooden covered bridge was built. This bridge might have been the longest covered bridge in all of Oregon!

In 1955, a strong steel bridge replaced the old wooden one. This steel bridge was then replaced again in 2019. Today, about 7,200 vehicles use this bridge every single day. Near the old wooden bridge, there was also a large train trestle. This trestle was part of the Clackamas & Eastern Railway, which helped connect different communities and sawmills.

Horace Baker Log Cabin: A Glimpse into History

On the south side of the Clackamas River, you'll find the Horace Baker Log Cabin. This historic site is managed by the Baker Cabin Historic Society. The original log cabin has been carefully restored. It helps us remember the early settlers.

Horace Baker and Jane Hattan settled here in 1846. They traveled a long way on the Oregon Trail and the Barlow Road. At this historic site, you can also see the restored German Methodist Church. This church was moved here in 1967 from Logan, which is about six miles east. Now called the Pioneer Church, it's used for community meetings and special events like weddings.

Movie Magic in Carver: Filming Locations

Did you know that Carver was a filming location for a famous movie? Several scenes from the 2008 movie Twilight were filmed right here!

  • The beautiful meadow scene in the movie was filmed in Carver Park.
  • Police chief Swan met Bella for breakfast at the Carver Cafe.
  • The Stone Cliff Inn was the spot where Edward revealed he was a vampire.
