Adair

  • Adair is in the northeast part of the township. People started settling here around 1840. It was once a stop on the Michigan Central Railway. An English builder who worked on the railway branch here gave it its name.

Casco (Community)

  • Casco is a community in the south-central part of the township. The first settlers arrived in this area before 1840. The township itself, formed in 1849, is thought to be named after Casco, Maine. Captain John Clarke, who was from Maine, likely chose the name. This community even had its own post office from 1854 until 1907.

Muttonville

  • Muttonville is located on the eastern edge of the township, right next to Richmond in Macomb County. It got its name because it was a main place for processing sheep. Many sheep were raised in this area.

Peters

  • Peters is a community in the southeast part of the township. It was first called "Petersburg" after an early settler named John Peters. However, there was another post office in Michigan already named Petersburg. So, the post office here was simply called "Peters." It operated from 1891 until 1905.
