Casper Games for Computers
One of the first computer games was Casper Brainy Book. It came out in May 1996. This game was for younger kids, aged 4 to 8. It was like an Interactive storybook. You could read the story and play three mini-games. These games helped you learn new words, spelling, and shapes.
Some parts of the movie's story were changed. For example, the special machine that turns ghosts into people was just called "the Machine". The original voice actors for Casper and the Ghostly Trio returned.
Casper: The Interactive Adventure
Another computer game was Casper: The Interactive Adventure. It was released in 1997. This game is a point-and-click adventure. It takes place after the 1995 movie.
In this game, Casper's human friends throw him a party. But Carrigan, a villain from the movie, turns them into ghosts. She hides them around the mansion. You must help Casper find his friends. You will use items and take pictures for clues. You also have to defend against the Ghostly Trio. They are on Carrigan's side.
Casper on Super Nintendo
There were two different Casper games for the Super Nintendo.
Super NES Game
This Casper game was made by Imagineering. It was published by Natsume. In this game, you play as Casper. Kat Harvey follows you around. Your job is to protect her from danger.
Since Casper is a ghost, he can float through walls. This is different from most other Casper games. But you must stay close to Kat. If you go too far, Carrigan's ghost will take her away. The game loosely follows the movie's story. You can pick up special items. These let Casper change into different objects. This helps him clear rooms of enemies. It also protects Kat from dangers. Mirrors in the mansion let Casper and Kat travel to other areas.
Super Famicom Game (Japan Only)
This version was made by Natsume too. But it was only released in Japan. It uses an isometric view. This means you see the game world from a slanted, top-down angle.
In this game, you mostly control Kat Harvey. She protects Casper from Carrigan and Dibs. Sometimes you can control Casper after finding special items. Kat collects items as she explores. This makes it more of an adventure game. You use baseballs to stun enemies. If an enemy hits you, the game is over. You can save your game by finding and activating mechanical devices.
Casper on PlayStation, Saturn, 3DO, and Game Boy Color
This version of Casper was published by Interplay. Funcom developed it. It is a top-view action-adventure game. The graphics look like they were made beforehand, called pre-rendered graphics.
The game tells a different version of the movie's story. It has three main parts. First, Casper finds tokens of friendship for Kat and Dr. Harvey. Then, he finds pieces of the Lazarus machine. The Ghostly Trio had taken it apart. Finally, he finds the Cellular Integrator. This is needed to bring Dr. Harvey back to life. But Carrigan steals it, leading to the final challenge.
You explore the mansion and solve puzzles. You collect jigsaw pieces to get morph icons. You also eat food to gain morph points. The Ghostly Trio are the main challenge. Unlike other versions, there are no other enemies. The game focuses mostly on solving puzzles. The voice actors for Casper and his uncles returned for this game.
Game Boy Color Version
The Game Boy Color game is a smaller version of the PlayStation/Saturn/3DO game. It has fewer puzzles and morph icons. Only the ones needed to finish the game are included. The sounds and graphics were made simpler for the handheld system.
Casper on Game Boy
This game was made by Bonsai Entertainment. Natsume released it. Each level has four main mini-games. You can play them in any order. There are also two final mini-games at the end. Three of the main mini-games are the same in every level. Only their difficulty changes. The main goal is to finish with as much "ooze" as possible. Ooze is like points and acts as fuel for the Lazarus machine.
Casper on Game Boy Advance
This game was made by Microïds and Planet Interactive in 2002. It is one of the few Casper games where he can actually float through walls. But only certain walls within each level.
In the story, the Ghostly Trio turn all the adults in town into zombies. This leaves the children scared. The old Schoolmistress calls Dr. James Harvey for help. But he also becomes a zombie! Now, it's up to Casper to guide the zombie Doctor. You help him through five levels. You use different transformations and objects. The goal is to help Dr. Harvey collect flasks. These flasks hold the formula to cure him.
There are also six children to rescue in each level. You don't have to save them to finish a level. But if you save every child, Casper becomes the "Hero of the Day." The Ghostly Trio sometimes appear in each level. They try to scare Dr. Harvey and make him go off course. Casper must block their attacks.
