Catherine Gilbert Murdock was born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1966. Her father was a chemical engineer. Her mother worked as a nurse.
Growing Up
Catherine grew up on a small Christmas tree farm. This farm was in Litchfield, Connecticut. She lived there with her sister, Elizabeth Gilbert. Elizabeth is also a well-known novelist.
Their family lived in the countryside. They did not have many neighbors. They also had a very old television. Because of this, everyone in the family loved to read. They spent a lot of time reading books.
Her Education
Catherine went to Bryn Mawr College. She studied how cities grow and are built. She graduated from college in 1988. Later, in 1998, she earned a special degree. This degree was in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania.
Her Books and Career
Catherine Gilbert Murdock started her writing career with a non-fiction book. This book was based on her studies from college. It was about how people viewed social customs in America's past.
Books for Young Readers
Her first novel for young adults was Dairy Queen. It came out in 2006. This book became very popular. She wrote two more books that continued the story. These were The Off Season (2007) and Front and Center (2009).
Another book, Heaven Is Paved with Oreos (2013), shares some characters. It is set in the same world as the Dairy Queen series.
Catherine has written other fantasy novels too. These include Princess Ben (2008). She also wrote Wisdom's Kiss (2011).
Award-Winning Work
